Lexi Berg

Introducing our 2024 Featured Quilter, Lexi Berg!

My lifelong love of sewing was inspired by my grandmother. One of my earliest memories is of visiting her in the Fall. It had been chilly, so I just had warm clothes with me. During our visit, we had an unusually warm summer like day and I did not have anything to wear.

My grandmother measured my little sister and I, pulled some red calico and eyelet lace from her stash and presto! An hour later my sister and I were playing in matching sundresses. From that moment I was hooked and continue to enjoy the magic of creating with fabric, needle and thread. One of my most treasured possessions is my grandmother’s 1933 Singer sewing machine. I keep it on display in my sewing room as a reminder of her inspiration.

I primarily sewed garments, crafts, and home decor items until I discovered quilting. It has been a love affair ever since. I have been quilting for over 30 years. I love to teach both in my home studios and at shops and guilds. I enjoy learning new techniques and my style is constantly evolving. My current passions are art quilts and fabric dyeing. I divide my time between my homes in Cheney and in Arizona. My time in the desert has inspired many of my art quilts. I have had my longarm since 2011 and enjoy using it to enhance my quilts with freehand quilting. Whether at my design wall, my longarm, or my sewing machine I love the process of quilting!

I have had quilts juried into the Accuquilt Let’s GO traveling exhibit and also into the Fly Me to the Moon, An Art Quilt Journey to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the moon landing. In addition, a quilt I made was part of a museum display in New York showcasing a memory quilt project for families that lost loved ones in 9-11. Locally, I enjoy participating in the WSQ, INMQ and AQG challenges. I love seeing how everyone interprets the parameters. Challenges really help me grow as a quilter. They make me think outside of the box and encourage me to try new things.

I was on the teaching staff at the Quilting Bee for 18 years and am currently on the teaching staff at Sun Valley Quilts in Sun City, AZ. I served as the 1st VP for Washington State Quilters and the Inland Northwest Machine Quilters Guild. I am a member of the Washington State Quilters, Inland Northwest Machine Quilters, Cheney Frayed Edges, Spokane Valley Quilters, Arizona Quilters Guild and Calico Cutups.
