April 27 @ 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Laura’s specialty has been machine quilting workmanship. The most prestigious award she has won is the Bernina Award for the best machine quilting workmanship, a $10,000 purchase award presented by the American Quilters Society in Paducah, Kentucky in 1993, for her quilt titled ‘One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish’. She has designed a vast and diverse catalog of quilt patterns, is an author and owns Fiberworks, a quilt shop in Billings, MT. She teaches locally and nationally, showing students what has worked for her and encouraging them to express their own concepts and creativity in their quilting. Many of her designs are simple, but her use of color and quilting makes them much more interesting!
Laura’s collage quilts have received world-wide attention! She travels throughout the states lecturing and teaching her technique. Her patterns and kits are available through her website or locally at her shop Fiberworks. The collage patterns include complete instruction to create your one of a kind quilt as well as full sized silhouettes. All collage kits are specifically chosen by Laura and many kits are limited editions.
Laura is always coming up with new ways to make collage quilts. Recently she has chosen to collage the entire quilt! Backgrounds of some of the quilts may appear pieced but they are actually collaged (Hen Rietta, Billie, Doodle Doo, Pincushion).
In 1994, Laura decided to take a chance and give up her full-time nursing position to open a quilt shop, Fiberworks, in Billings. She has never regretted it! Laura teaches locally and nationally, showing students what has worked for her and encouraging them to express their own concepts and creativity in their quilting. Many of her designs are simple, but her use of color and quilting makes them much more interesting!
Laura will teach two of her collage workshops on April 28 & 29, 2023.
