Anita Pederson

Introducing our 2023 Featured Quilter, Anita Pederson!

I started sewing when I was in Jr. High making clothes for school on my great aunt’s Singer Featherweight. My first pieced quilt was for a friend for her wedding in the 70’s. It was simple but I had fun making it. I was hooked. I love the creativity of drafting a design, cutting fabric up into small pieces, and sewing them back together to create something new. When I started quilting we didn’t have rotary cutters, mats, and rulers. We cut templates from plastic, traced the pieces using a pencil on the fabric, and cut it out with scissors. I will say, I much prefer my rotary cutter, mat, and rulers or my AccuQuilt over scissors. I love teaching others how to make quilts or sharing tips that will help them be better quilters. I taught classes for 13 years at the Quilting Bee and still teach occasional classes as an outreach at my church. My first machine quilting attempts were done on my domestic machine. In 2005, I started Longarm Quilting at Log Cabin Dry Goods and bought my machine in 2007. All of my machine quilting is done freehand.

When I work on a Challenge Quilt, I like to challenge myself by trying a new technique or new tool. This could be something I learned while taking a class or something I saw in a book or online. Some of these techniques turn out better than others, but you never know if you will like the technique or if it will turn out until you try.

I have served as President of the Inland Northwest Machine Quilters Guild for 5 years and before that I served on The Treasure Quilt Challenge, The Artistic Challenge, The IMNQ Challenge Committees, as well as publishing the INMQ Design Books for several years. I served as 2nd VP for Washington State Quilters, Spokane Chapter for 3 years and am currently serving as Secretary for the Quilt Show Committee as well as helping out with the Boutique, Fundraising, and the Registration Committees. I am also a member of Quilts of Valor, Sew Sisters, Foothill Fabricators, and In-Stitches.
