Grant Challenge: “Threadsetters”

All entries must interpret the theme “Threadsetters” which celebrates innovation, originality, and boundary-pushing creativity in quilting. Each entrant will use metallic thread in a predominant way and at least one of the following to embellish their quilts: paint, beads, fibers, and/or recycled materials.

Eligibility

  1. Must be original work.
  2. Quilt must have been started and completed in 2026.
  3. Must be the sole work of the entrant.
  4. Open to both WSQ and non-WSQ members.

Entry Requirements

  1. One entry per person.
  2. Quilt may be any shape…square, rectangle, circle, abstract, but must have a perimeter of 96”.
  3. Must consist of three layers (top, batting, and backing) quilted by hand or machine.
  4. Back of quilt must include a label with entrant’s name, quilt title, and contact information.
  5. On the back of the quilt, mark the “top” of the quilt with a label.
  6. A 4” hanging sleeve is required.
    Quilts must not be framed with wood, metal, etc.

Design Guidelines

  1. Any of these techniques are allowed: piecing, applique, embroidery, mixed media, embellishment, hand or machine quilting.
  2. Original design only.

Submission Requirements

  1. Completed online entry form. (These will be available on our website by June 1).
  2. Two High-quality photo(s) of the quilt for jurying.
    1. FULL VIEW photo of completed quilt. No part of the quilt can be obscured. Do not manipulate your photos, however you may crop the background as long as all edges, corners and binding of the quilt are visible. Quilt should be straight and not distorted. 
    2. Detail photo showing quilting stitches. Select a 12” section representing your best work.
  3. Artist statement on entry form explaining how the quilt interprets “ThreadSetters”.
  4. $20 non-refundable entry fee required at the time of online entry.

Kathie Kerler is a NACQJ Certified Judge who will be judging our juried Grant Challenge.

Timeline

  1. Submission Deadline: July 15
  2. Notification of Acceptance: August 1
  3. Delivery of Quilts deadline
    a. Local – drop off at WQS Guild Meeting September 24, or deliver in person to Connie Garrison. (see entry form for address and delivery dates).
    b. Ship to Connie Garrison: Must be received by September 30 (see entry form for address).
  4. Show Dates: October 16-18
  5. Pickup/return of quilts
    a. Local: pick up at Quilt Show October 18 at 6:00 PM
    b. Return shipping: late October

Shipping and Handling

  1. Entrants are responsible for shipping costs to and from show.
  2. Quilts must be shipped in a reusable container with a paid return label.
  3. Insurance is recommended, but optional. WSQ is not responsible for loss or damage.

Legal and Display

By entering, participants grant permission for the show to photograph and display their quilt for promotional purposes.
