Secret Garden Embroidery Class, A Stitch Adventure Day 1 with Lisa Mortell

January 29, 2027 @ 9:00 am 4:00 pm

Think of this workshop as building-your-own-adventure in stitching.

Lisa will be teaching many advanced stitches, and she has designed some new stitching combinations for everyone to enjoy.  You will learn new stitches: Double Cast-on Bullion Knot, Trellis Stitch, Whipped Woven Circle, Wheatear Stitch, Open Buttonhole Stitch, Cup Stitch, Closed Cup Stitch, Cup Stitch with Increase, and Cast-on Bullion Knots.  Lisa will also teach how to use Spoke Easy and Loop Easy creative stitching tools. You will explore techniques like Folded Hexagons, Yo-yos with silk and velvet, and embellishing trims and lace.  All these new concepts will bring your stitching to a new level.

As you prepare for the upcoming workshop, make sure you are comfortable with the following:  Backstitch, Chain Stitch, Bullion Knot, Palestrina Knot, and French knot. The workshop is structured as a two-day event; however, you can take either one day or both days. Lisa will be teaching different stitches each day.  Lisa will provide the book/pattern which includes all the stitch combinations, so you could make all the designs on your own using the instructions for the day you missed.

Before class:

Lisa’s website: https://lisamortell.com

Order an optional kit for $18.00 from Lisa at least 3-4 weeks prior to the class.
The kit will consist of a fat 8th of wool for the background, some coordinating fabrics & trim, & instructions for creating a unique background. You can order these kits & download the instructions from her website. If you prefer, you can use your own supplies and download the instructions from Lisa’s website.

Pre-class homework is to have your background completed before the first class. Lisa will have everything on her website at least 2 months prior to the class. The homework instructions will be available on her website as a free download, so anyone can get them, even if you don’t buy a kit. Lisa will bring extra kits to the general meeting.
