Linda Cook

Linda Anne Cook passed away at home on February 5, 2026 surrounded by family, after a two year battle with cancer. She was born alongside her twin sister, Laurel, on April 18, 1948 to William H. and Mary Jane Prunty. Linda lived in Spokane all of her life, attending St. Augustine grade school, Marycliff High School, and Fort Wright College. She worked at R. A. Hanson Co. and Medical Service Corporation. On April 28, 1973 Linda married her best friend, Richard (Dick) Cook and they shared many happy moments together. Her greatest accomplishment was that of stay at home mom caring for and nurturing her three children and later being a great role model for her six grandchildren. She showed what it is to be a good mom and grandma by example. She was very proud to have a twin sister. Oftentimes in school, teachers would confuse the two of them. She looked forward to going shopping or to a movie with her twin sister. She was especially adept at sewing and would often make Halloween costumes and masks for her kids. She took up quilting and was hooked on the hobby. Over her forty years of quilting she made hundreds of quilts. She tied quilts for charity at the Spokane Interstate Fair and at the Washington State Quilt show, made Christmas stockings for charity, and sewed quilt tops for donations to Veterans. She always looked forward to going to her Tuesday Thimbles meeting with her “quilt sisters” sharing what projects everyone was working on and having good conversation. Linda was a passionate sports fan and could be seen (and heard) cheering for her favorite teams. She also loved to read, and always had a good book nearby. Her favorite road trip was to the Oregon Coast, specifically Cannon Beach, Haystack Rock, Center Diamond quilt store, and the Coaster Theatre. She was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in 2014 and diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March 2024. She persevered many chemotherapy treatments and hospital visits over the last two years. Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jane O’Neill, her father, William H. Prunty, and her sister, Laurel Reilly. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Richard Cook, Spokane Valley, her son, Joe (Heather) Cook, Everett, WA, her daughter, Melanie (Nate) Donaldson, Spokane Valley, her son, Andy (Gretchen) Cook, Spokane, her brother, Mike (Jeanette) Prunty, Temecula, CA, her grandchildren Dominic Cook, Daisy Cook, Liv Donaldson, Brynne Donaldson, Penelope Cook, and Hazel Cook, and many cousins.

Linda radiated warmth and kindness to everyone she met, and her love could be felt by all. She had an infectious enthusiasm for not only her own hobbies and activities, but she showed a deep care and interest in others. Her smile and laugh would light up a room. The quilts Linda made will continue to keep us warm, and will remind us of her generosity and selflessness. Linda will always be “Forever in Our Hearts.”

Linda’s family would like to thank the providers and staff of Cancer Care Northwest (Valley), Sacred Heart Medical Center, and Hospice of Spokane for their exceptional care and support for Linda and her family throughout her diagnosis, treatment, and end of life care. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Poor Clare Sisters of Spokane or Hospice of Spokane. A Celebration of Life will be held at Sacred Heart Church on April 18, 2026 at 11:00 am.
